n April 1925, Albert Fezer and Gottlieb Stoll founded the company “Fezer & Stoll,” specializing in the manufacture of woodworking machinery. The following year, they filed their first patent for a multifunctional carpentry machine (Zimmerei-Universal-Maschine ZUM), which was ready for immediate use. For the first time, the brand name Festo was used with the ZUM to market the product. The name originated from the founders’ surnames and symbolized innovation from that point forward. After a few years, Albert Fezer left the company, and Gottlieb Stoll took full responsibility for its management.
With the support of his wife Berta, he further developed and expanded the company. From the beginning, he adhered to principles of rationalization within the company, aiming to optimize workflows both internally and for his customers.
The company’s first headquarters on Ulmer Straße in Esslingen am Neckar was built in 1939, bringing all operational areas together under one roof. Modern production and office spaces were constructed there, equipped with the most advanced machinery and manufacturing technologies of the time.
